What is Visualization?

Visualization is the process of presenting data in a form that allows rapid understanding of relationships and findings that are not readily evident from raw data. Visualization technologies deepen content knowledge in mathematics, science and engineering within universities, businesses and government agencies.

These same technologies benefiting today's global information workforce are being introduced into K-12 schools across the country. Visualization technologies are enabling teachers and students to create and navigate through three-dimensional (3D) visual representations of natural phenomena to support inquiry-based learning opportunities for the students.

The REVITALISE Program recognizes the importance of addressing the Illinois, North Carolina and National Learning, Professional Development and Technology Standards in materials developed by participants. These Standards will enable all students to gain the knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes that will enable them to lead productive and fulfilling lives in a complex and changing society.  Professional Teaching Standards ensure that teachers are preparing students to achieve high standards. This includes providing appropriate and adequate opportunities to learn to communicate with words, numbers, visual images, symbols, and sounds; as well as to think analytically and creatively, and be able to solve problems to meet personal, social and academic needs.

Revitalise is made possible in part by a grant from the National Science Foundation.
