About Revitalise

Rural Educators Using Visualization to Inspire Teacher Advancement and Learning
to Improve Science and Mathematics Education

The 2004-2006 REVITALISE Program focuses on educators in rural Illinois and North Carolina with the goal of introducing technologies that will reduce teacher isolation and stimulate virtual learning.

Specifically the Program aims to apply Visualization methodologies to strengthen standards-based curricula and provide educators with advanced tools for teaching and communicating.

The program will address four interrelated elements for the revitalization of rural communities:

  1. Build and sustain a community of master teachers who support novice teachers through mentoring programs.
  2. Provide resources and training to develop teachers' use of visualization technologies and content expertise to create reusable models for student learning
  3. Enhance standards-based curricula through the use of visualization technologies to encourage student engagement
  4. Develop a sustainable and scalable model that continues to assist teachers in becoming effective leaders and change agents.

Who is Eligible?

Middle and high school teachers from rural Illinois or North Carolina school districts are requested to apply as "teams" of educators. Teams should consist of four members, preferably from the same school or school district (Can be a combined middle and high school team). Teams should consist of at least one mathematics teacher, one science teacher, one technology coordinator, and one administrator (principal, superintendent, curriculum director, department chair, etc). We encourage teams to include both novice and veteran teachers.

Revitalise is made possible in part by a grant from the National Science Foundation.
